Longhua Temple 龙华寺 (Mooncake 2025)
The Longhua Temple is the oldest and most well-known temple in Shanghai. All of their product offerings are vegetarian, and are loved by many. Even secondary resellers have been known to queue for over two hours to obtain a box of the pastry-styled mooncakes. This extraordinary popularity reflects the enduring reverence and appeal of Longhua Temple’s culinary traditions.
These traditional mooncakes are known for their crispy, multi-layered pastry skin and savory or sweet fillings. Unlike the dense, soft texture of Cantonese mooncakes, Su-style mooncakes feature a flaky crust.
They are often filled with ingredients like mixed nuts, sweet bean paste, ham, or sesame, balancing sweet and savory flavours in each bite. Baked to a golden finish, these mooncakes reflect a centuries-old Shanghai and Jiangnan culinary heritage.
