About this Wine
In the 1920’s, Michel Rolland’s family, owner of Château Le Bon Pasteur in Pomerol, acquired a parcel of land at Bertineau in the commune of Néac, northeast of Pomerol.
The vines planted here fall within the Lalande de Pomerol appellation. Covering slightly more than five hectares today, the vineyard is bedded on clay and gravel, with an influx of sand around the riverbed in the West of the property.
Patented in 1978, the Château name is a reference to its locality as well as Vincent of Saragossa, a fourth-century Catholic martyr exalted by Spanish and French Christians and generally lauded as the patron saint of vintners. Saint Vincent’s feast day falls on 22 January, and the saying goes that “if it’s a beautiful day on Saint Vincent’s day, the vine shoots will have plenty of juice”.
