Company Introduction

Established in 1984, DeFRED Jewellers has become a name synonymous with exquisite fine jewellery.

The story of DeFRED begins with Fred Ho, a young boy from Hong Kong, born into a family immersed in the jewellery trade. At the age of 12, while other boys his age were looking for ways to skip school, Fred was pulled out by his father to dive into the family business. Fred wasn’t struggling academically—on the contrary, his artistic talents had already earned him numerous awards. Recognizing his potential, his father wasted no time and trained him as a designer within the family’s Hong Kong jewellery factory. By the time Fred was 18, he was sent to New York for formal design education to further hone his skills.

Inspired by the freedom and idealism he experienced in America, Fred returned to Hong Kong but chose not to follow the conventional path of joining the family business. Instead, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to Singapore, where he began as a supplier of precious gems to jewellers here. However, it wasn’t long before Fred’s desire to set up his own boutique, DeFRED was born.

22 years ago, Sharel Tan came on board as the Managing Director and Chief Engagement Officer of DeFRED. Sharel’s favourite quote is from the artist, Salvador Dali, “Have no fear of perfection. You will never reach it.” That is why Sharel is constantly pushing the boundaries of DeFRED’s creativity, design and craftsmanship to the highest echelon of the industry.

And once she gets there, she will start all over again because she believes with all her heart that perfection can – and should – be improved on. It’s the only way to grow. As DeFRED’s Chief Engagement Officer, Sharel spends much of her time listening to customers to understand what they want so that the company can always stay two steps ahead with its innovation initiatives. Last year, Sharel launched the Angel Wings Series, a collection that symbolize strength of love, compassion, and protectiveness. Designed to envelop wearers in elegance, beauty and embrace freedom in style! Each piece in this series is crafted with love, bringing grace and sophistication to every moment.
